Völkl is the racquet brand serious players find after they've tried everything else. Built in Germany and never chasing volume, Völkl frames are known for a softer, more connected feel than the stiff power sticks that dominate the wall at big-box stores — which is exactly why they have such a loyal following among club players with sensitive arms and one-handed backhands.
We stock the complete Vostra line. That matters more than it sounds. Most retailers carry two or three Vostra frames scattered among a dozen other Völkl models. We carry V4 through V10, including all three weights of the V8 and both weights of the V9 — so you can pick your frame by how it plays, not by what happened to be in stock.
Which Vostra is right for you?
| Model | Unstrung weight | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Vostra V4 | Light | Improving players who want easy power and a forgiving swing |
| Vostra V6 | Light–medium | Club players adding control without losing free depth |
| Vostra V7 | Medium | All-court players who want balance over specialisation |
| Vostra V8 285g | 285g | Faster swings, lighter frame — good for doubles and quick hands at net |
| Vostra V8 300g | 300g | The default modern player's weight. Start here if you're unsure |
| Vostra V8 315g | 315g | Stronger players who generate their own pace and want stability |
| Vostra V9 290g | 290g | Control-oriented players who prefer a lighter, more manoeuvrable frame |
| Vostra V9 305g | 305g | Advanced players wanting plough-through with a tighter response |
| Vostra V10 300g | 300g | The most demanding frame in the line — for players who supply their own power |
Choosing by weight, not by marketing
The single most useful decision is weight. A heavier frame is more stable against pace and more forgiving off-centre, but it punishes a late swing. A lighter frame is easier to whip through the ball and easier on the shoulder, but it gets pushed around by a big hitter.
- Under 290g — juniors, doubles specialists, players returning from injury, or anyone whose arm complains after a long match.
- 290–305g — where most 3.0 to 4.5 club players belong. If you're between frames, this is the safe range.
- 305g and above — players with full swings and enough strength to keep the racquet head moving in the third set.
If a Völkl feels harsh to you, it is almost always the string, not the frame. Völkl frames are on the softer side; pairing one with a stiff full-bed polyester undoes exactly what you paid for. Ask us and we'll tell you honestly.
Every racquet strung before it ships
We're a working pro shop, not a warehouse. Order a frame and tell us your string and tension, and we'll string it before it goes out — no extra labour charge. If you don't know what you want, say so and we'll recommend something based on how you actually play. We've been stringing racquets for over 14 years and we also run a nationwide mail-in stringing service, so the person setting up your racquet does this every day.
Common questions
Are Völkl racquets good for tennis elbow?
They have a reputation for comfort, and the softer layup is a large part of why players with arm trouble seek them out. No racquet cures tennis elbow on its own — string choice and tension matter at least as much — but a Völkl paired with a soft multifilament is a sensible starting point.
What's the difference between the V8 and the V9?
Broadly, the V8 is the more forgiving, all-round frame and the V9 is the tighter, more control-oriented one. If you're already hitting a heavy ball and want the racquet to get out of the way, look at the V9. If you want the frame to help you, look at the V8.
Do you offer a grip size I need?
Tell us the size when you order. If we don't have it on the shelf we'll tell you straight away rather than leaving you waiting.
Can I demo before buying?
Get in touch — we'd rather you ended up with the right frame than the one you guessed at.
