The 2024 Wuhan Open continued on Tuesday from China. The tournament, which is also known as the Dongfeng Open, will continue to run throughout this week as it builds towards Sunday's final. Barring any last-minute withdrawals, the high seeds taking to the courts soon include Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Emma Navarro, and Jessica Pegula. Here's a recap of what went down on Tuesday from Wuhan, China on the second day of main draw action.

Tuesday Results: Liudmila Samsonova eliminated, Paula Badosa withdraws

Liudmila Samsonova fell in defeat in her first-round match. She faced a very feisty veteran in Magda Linette, with the Polish player winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Another seeded player in the tournament, Mirra Andreeva, managed to survive her first-round match.

Meanwhile, Paula Badosa's name no longer appears on the draw sheet. She was among the tournament favorites following the initial release of the draw. Italian player Lucia Bronzetti replaced Badosa in the tournament as a lucky loser.

Americans Advancing or Eliminated on Day 2

Americans Ashlynn Krueger and Sofia Kenin were not seeded in the event. They are two American players who suffered first-round defeats on Tuesday. Krueger and Kenin went out but each put up a fight in a three-set loss.

Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova was the only American player to advance in the singles draw on Tuesday. She joins Hailey Baptiste and Bernarda Pera as first-round winners for the USA. They will likewise join the heavy-hitting American hopefuls who had first-round byes.

In the days ahead Pegula, Gauff, and Navarro are expected to begin their challenges for the Wuhan title, one that most would expect World No. 2 player Aryna Sabalenka to claim. The Russian is also expected to play her opening match in the upcoming days as second-round matches begin.
